RULES SALMON & TROUT

(please see Pike page for pike rules)

 

THE FOLLOWING RULES MUST BE OBSERVED, ON PENALTY OF FORFEITING PERMIT.

 

1.    Only one rod at a time allowed per pool (river); rods to move on as pool is fished down.

 

2.    No angler to use more than one rod at a time.

 

3.    Worming for salmon; single hook only, size 1/0 or above (Worms are prohibited all of Sept).

 

4.    No live or dead bait, other than worms, to be used (Worms are prohibited all of Sept) & use of lead weights are prohibited.

 

5.    No bank sticks or fixed rods.

 

6.    No angler to

       a)  be accompanied by a dog

       b)  cause damage to woods or fencing

       c)  disturb game or stock or any nesting birds or breeding wildlife

       d)  leave litter near Association Waters or approaches (all litter must be taken home)

       e)  light fire

 

        Care must be taken in parking vehicles so as to not obstruct access or rights of way.

 

7.    CATCH RETURNS for all fish excluding pike & Rod Days fished for Salmon/Sea Trout MUST be completed via:

8.    Bag limit of 2 fish per day.

 

9.    No trout under 10ins to be taken (all waters).

 

10.  No tickets refunded.

 

11.  Killing kelts is illegal.

12.  The use of lead weights is specifically prohibited.

 

 

The Fishing Seasons are:

SALMON & SEA TROUT:           March 15 - Sept 30

BROWN TROUT:                        March 15 - Sept 30

PIKE:                                            All Year

 

N.B. SALMON & SEA TROUT FISHING IS ILLEGAL ON SUNDAYS.  IT IS ALSO ILLEGAL TO SELL ROD CAUGHT SALMON.

 

ANGLERS MUST CARRY PERMITS AT ALL TIMES AND SHOW SAME ON REQUEST TO ASSOCIATION WATER WARDEN, APPOINTED WARDENS AND COMMITTEE MEMBERS.  BAGS MAY BE INSPECTED.

​Restrictions

Rivers

River Spey

Beat 1 (Dalchully): Access via North Bank only

Beat 14 (Ralia): No Salmon fishing allowed

From the beat end at Newtonmore shooting ground, westwards on the South bank to Laggan Bridge is not controlled by the Association and individual landlords must be approached for permission to fish.

Beat 15 (Glentromie): Access to the river limited to a 60ft wide passageway along the river bank, downstream from Kingussie.

Beat 16 (RSPB): no fishing will be permitted from shingle banks.  Care to be taken to ensure all kit is cleaned before entering the site to avoid any risk of invasive species being introduced into river area.  No boats allowed.  Access via South Bank only.  You must fasten any closed gates after passage.

River Tromie

Local Season ticket holders only.  Special permit must be obtained from Permit/Boat/Outings Secretary 07742497571 / email permitboatbaa@gmail.com in advance.  This water is FLY only and ALL fish must be returned.

 

The B.A.A. Permit does not allow access to any tributary streams or feeder burns.  No fishing above Spey Dam. Night fishing is restricted to Loch Laggan and Loch Loch Ericht only.  No night fishing on Rivers Spey, Calder or Tromie.

 

River Truim

Local Season ticket holders only.  Special permit must be obtained from Permit/Boat/Outings Secretary 07742497571 / email permitboatbaa@gmail.com in advance.  This water is fly only and all fish must be returned.

 

The BAA permit does not allow access to any tributary streams or feeder burns, No fishing above Spey Dam.  Night fishing is restricted to Loch Laggan and Loch Ericht only.  No night fishing on Rivers Spey, Calder or Tromie.

​LOCHS

​Spey Dam

Two sessions: 8am to 5pm and 5pm to dusk.  Fly only.  Limit to 10 rods.  Limit 2 fish per session.  Petrol engines are not allowed.

Boat permits available to book via Permit page on this website.  

 

Loch Ericht

No vehicular access.  Limited to 40 rods.  2 fish per day.  Night fishing permitted.

 

Loch Laggan

Fishing from North shore only (roadside).  Limited to 30 rods.  2 fish per day.  Night fishing permitted.

 

Permits must be obtained in advance from Permit/Boat/Outings Secretary 07742497571 / email: permitboatbaa@gmail.com or purchased online via this website.
