Phase 1 given go ahead so we can now fish locally (preferably just within 5 miles) from Friday 28th May 2020

2020 Season Permit Sales now  Open - Local  Only (PH19, PH20 & PH21)

May Bulletin

COVID-19 Update

The Scottish Government announced on 22nd May that they were relaxing lock down on fishing activities and that people could recommence fishing  within certain constraints. It is our understanding (pending clarification) that we can start fishing our rivers and lochs as from Thursday 28th May 2020. The government announcement stated that they would:

“allow unrestricted outdoors exercise adhering to distancing measures and no-contact outdoor activities in the local area” and  we would be:

“permitted to travel short distances for outdoor leisure and exercise but advise to stay within a short distance of your local community (broadly within 5 miles) and travel by walk, wheel, and cycle where possible” and comply with:

  • physical distancing requirements

  • frequent hand washing and hygiene measures for all

  • cough etiquette is maintained

Unfortunately we believe the 5 mile rule restricts fishing on water under our management to local permit holders only i.e. those with a PH19, PH20 and PH21 postcode.

Permit Sales

Badenoch Angling Association is a non profit making organisation run by club members for fishing enthusiasts wishing to fish waters in the Badenoch area under our management. COVID-19 is having a huge affect on our finances due to reduced income from permit sales.  Our permit prices have always been low to provide affordable fishing for all and any children aged 6 and under can fish free with an adult that has purchased a permit. We appreciate that 2 months of the season have been lost but our costs and outgoings have not stopped, but we feel it appropriate to reduce local permit prices slightly. We will be reviewing the visitor permit prices once we have clarification that the government will allow people to travel out with their community.

New Local Season Permit Prices

Adult - £40 Senior - £20 Junior £15

Permits can currently be purchased at the following:

Kingussie Paper Shop/Post Office

Dalwhinnie Service Station

Please note it is illegal to fish without a permit, if caught without a permit you will incur a penalty fee

The Association was formed in the mid 60's with the aim of improving fishing in the Badenoch area.

The Association controls fishing on the River Spey from the mouth of the River Tromie to the Spey Dam at Laggan.  There is also fishing on the A86 side of Loch Laggan and part of Loch Ericht.

Association waters are covered by a protection order issued under the freshwater and salmon fisheries act.

It is illegal to commence fishing without first obtaining a permit.

Fishing is mostly brown trout with the occasional salmon. There is also some pike fishing between Lochan Uvie and Laggan.  Loch Laggan itself holds some specimen pike.

The Association waters are in the vicinity of Kingussie, Newtonmore and Laggan.
